The Knowledge base on Key National Indicators (KNI) is an instrument for creating a common information space which accumulates various data sources of the INTOSAI Working group on KNI.
The INTOSAI Working Group (WG) on KNI was established according to recommendation of the 19th Congress of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions, held in Mexico City in 2007. The WG is chaired by the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation. One of the WG strategic goals is to facilitate information and knowledge sharing among its member SAIs and partners, to carry out evaluations and to render services on knowledge acquisition.
The key national indicators are understood to be a specific set of indicators that measures economic and social progress in achieving national goals in the respective areas.
The main document developed by the Working group is White paper, which focuses primarily on KNI as a necessary tool for the effective evaluation of national strategies, and the role of supreme audit institutions (SAI) in their development and use.
In compliance with the item 1.3 of the WG Terms of Reference the Working group has to design and facilitate public access to knowledge base on the methodology and best practices of developing, using and auditing of KNI in INTOSAI member-countries.
A new version of the KNI Knowledge Base was presented to the WG member-states at the 8th meeting of the Working group (Sofia, Bulgaria, March 2015, the 8th Meeting minutes.)
